Charlie has a number of sisters now resident next door with Eddie. Unlike Charlie, they haven’t been subjected to the indignity of having their flight feathers removed and occasionally come visiting. I am becoming quite adept at the tricky process of catching unwilling chooks and returning them aerially across the fence, usually to the accompaniment of much indignance on their part.
Tonight, as we were checking how many of our own birds were taking again to the trees for roosting, I noticed that three of Charlie’s sisters had set up for the night in a conifer just inside Eddie’s fence. They were a little startled at the attention and set up a mighty squawking and cackling before descending in alarm to the ground of their own pen.
