Bruce Molsky

Out yesterday evening to a concert put on by the local arts society, the very wonderful Bruce Molsky. Bruce is a fiddler of some astonishing talent and originality and he brought to the Ardrishaig Public Hall last night folk music from the southern United States and breathed life and fire into it. Not content with a virtuoso performance on fiddle (of which he played two), he also performed on banjo and guitar, the latter with several of his own compositions and transcriptions of old recordings gleaned from the archives of the US Library of Congress.
I’m not a natural fan of folk fiddle, but there is nothing quite like being in the presence of excellent musicianship and great music to displace prejudice with pleasure.
