One out, nearly all out

Her Maj decided on Thursday that the eggs under the chooks were infertile, for nothing had emerged in some weeks, and lifted all but one of the eggs which we had previously marked. The one egg she left because it had not lost weight as had the other, infertile, eggs. An interesting observation for a poultry tyro like myself is that the infertile eggs became lighter and lighter and started to rattle softly, as if all the albumen had disappeared, leaving the yolk behind, I presume this happens as water diffuses out from the egg in the warmth of the broody’s nest, but I didn’t have the nerve to open the eggs to find out.
